From India to THE LÄND - Studying Information Technology in Stuttgart
Baden-Württemberg attracts talents from all over the world - including Poornima Telsang from India. She has spent the last two years studying Information Technology (M. Sc.) at the University of Stuttgart.
Poornima Telsang from India always knew that she wanted to do her Master's abroad. In 2022, she came to Germany to start the Master's degree program in Information Technology at the University of Stuttgart. Why did she choose THE LÄND and its state capital, Stuttgart? It was not only the excellent academic education that convinced her, but also the numerous top companies in the automotive industry, which offer educational and job opportunities after graduation.
THE LÄND in a nutshell: ‘Warm, welcome and international’
Over the past two years, Poornima has found the University of Stuttgart to be very warm, welcoming and international. ‘I did not expect that there would be so many Indians and in general international students,’ she says looking back. In fact, the proportion of international students is high: in the summer semester of 2025, around 4,500 international students are enrolled at the university - that corresponds to almost a quarter of the total student body. But it’s not just the international atmosphere that persuaded her. Poornima also values the high-quality education. The University of Stuttgart is part of the TU9 Alliance, a Germany-wide association of leading technical universities that aim to promote ground-breaking innovations through a wide range of collaborations with global corporations, SMEs and start-ups.
The Master of Science Information Technology, or INFOTECH for short, is one of the most popular international degree programs at the University of Stuttgart because it combines both electrical engineering and computer science with subjects such as Communication Engineering and Media Technology, Embedded Systems or Software Engineering. According to Poornima, a particularly convincing feature of the program is that each student can flexibly choose the courses and adapt them to their future career aspirations.
Her career has already taken off: she worked as an intern and working student at Mercedes Benz. Thanks to her previous experience with the company in India, she was able to build on an already strong network. In addition to this great opportunity, she was able to develop her skills and finance her student life through teaching and research assistant roles at university institutes. Furthermore, scholarships such as e-fellows and FEMSTART from Bosch provided Poornima with financial support, as well as helping her to start her career after graduation. If you're looking for cutting-edge research, flexible study options or exciting career opportunities, THE LÄND has it all!
