Baden-Württemberg’s universities place high in rankings

Internationally, Baden-Württemberg’s universities enjoy a great reputation and score high ranks for the quality of their research and teaching.

Baden-Württemberg is a great place to study and to do research for many reasons. Academically, Baden-Württemberg’s universities enjoy a great reputation within Germany and internationally. Three of Germany’s top ten universities are based in Baden-Württemberg, according to the QS World University Rankings 2024 that uses a thorough methodology to compare universities worldwide:

In the other two famous international rankings, the World University Rankings by Times Higher Education (THE) and the Shanghai Ranking, also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities, Baden-Württemberg’s universities perform similarly well. In (THE) Ranking 2023, three of Baden-Württemberg’s nine research universities made it to the German top ten:The University of Heidelberg ranks third,  the University of Tübingen ranks fifth and the University of Freiburg ranks tenth. These same three landed in the German top ten of the Shanghai Ranking 2023: The University of Heidelberg has even topped the list at the national level.
