Baden-Württemberg has a very diverse educational landscape. The southwestern German state is home to research universities, universities of applied sciences and many more.
With nine research universities, six universities of education, 23 state universities of applied sciences (HAW), the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University with nine locations, and 11 universities of arts and music, Baden-Württemberg has a rich educational landscape.
The universities of Heidelberg, Konstanz, Tübingen and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have been awarded the prestigious status of “universities of excellence”. There are also twelve clusters of excellence within the excellence strategy of the federal and state governments in Baden-Württemberg. These awards show the outstanding quality of education in Baden-Württemberg.
In addition to the state universities, there are also several church and state-approved but privately operated universities and universities of applied sciences. The film academy, the academy of performing arts and the pop academy complete the educational picture.
The various universities offer state-of-the-art education in numerous subjects and fields of study, from archaeology to artificial intelligence, from mathematics to material science and from sustainable agriculture to social work. Depending on the course of study and the type of university, theory or practice predominate and there are various degrees to choose from.
